Prakash Karat Meets Vietnam PM
THE general secretary of the CPI(M), Prakash Karat, met the prime minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Nguyen Tan Dung, who is on his visit to India, on July 6. Karat was accompanied by Nilotpal Basu and Hari Singh Kang, central secretariat members of the CPI(M).
The prime minister of Vietnam said the visit was a fruitful one and also mentioned that his visit to West Bengal had been a rewarding endeavour.
Nguyen Tan Dung talked about the legacy of the struggle of the people of Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh. He said they would carry this legacy forward. Vietnam would progress on the way to socialism with economic development. He affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam will base itself on Marxism-Leninism-Ho Chi Minh thought.
Prakash Karat explained the special place acquired by Vietnam in the minds of the Indian people. He said political parties, irrespective of affiliations, admired the Vietnamese struggle for liberation. He appreciated the steady economic progress being made in Vietnam through “Doi Moi” (reforms). He stressed that the two parties shared a common bond in being parties wedded to Marxism-Leninism. In India, the CPI(M) and the Left parties are working for an independent foreign policy and for economic growth which provides justice to all sections of society.
