Free The Five Cuban Heroes

THE Youth Student Cuba Solidarity Committee India has organised a national seminar ‘US Government Free The Five Cuban Heroes’ on June 29, 2007 at the Muktadhara auditorium in New Delhi. The seminar demanded the freeing of the five Cuban heroes illegally incarcerated in the US prisons.

The seminar was addressed by the First secretary of the Cuban embassy Mrs Dallymee, convener of the solidarity committee and the general secretary of DYFI, Tapas Sinha, general secretary of SFI, Ragesh, the national secretary of All India Youth Federation, the secretary of Revolutionary Youth Federation, Sunny Kutty and other national leaders of youth and student organisations. The solidarity committee consists of 20 democratic-secular youth and student organisations across the country. The committee will visit Cuba from July 24- August 4 with a group of 30 members.

In the inaugural session, Tapas Sinha explained the unbelievable achievements of Cuba in several spheres, despite threats and attacks from the US. Being a small beautiful country, it has not only succeeded in giving social security to its people but has excelled marvellously in the realms of medicine, he said and added that it is a wonder that in the last Olympic Games, Cuba achieved 9 gold and 7 silver medals. Education is free in Cuba. Cuba could attain such success because of its pro-people policies and due to its continuous struggle against imperialism and capitalism. He said that the committee has written to the US president George Bush regarding the release of the five Cuban heroes, but the reply from the other end was not satisfactory.

The First secretary of the Cuban embassy, Mrs Dallymee explained how the five heroes were arrested and put under excruciating torture by the US government. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the solidarity committee for organising this seminar. The vote of thanks was offered by Pushpender Tyagi.

The US government has unjustly arrested five young Cuban patriots who were working against the terrorist attack on their motherland, Cuba. The five courageous young Cubans have been subjected to humiliating and harsh imprisonment in US jails, when the only crime they are guilty of are patriotism and dignity. It is the bounden duty of all the peace-loving citizens to raise their voice in unison and demand the US to immediately release Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Fernando Gonzalex, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, the five Cuban heroes who were convicted on false charges.

There were many terrorist attacks on Cuba carried out by the terrorists based in Miami, US. For example, the French ship La Coubre was blown up in the port of Havana, in 1960 killing 101 people. On October 6, 1976, two bombs were detonated on a Cuban airlines civilian aircraft that killed 73 people. Bacteriological terrorism aimed at humans, plants and animals has also been used against Cuba, with a total of 344, 203 people affected and 158 dead, of whom 101 were children. There have been 637 attempts on the life of the president of Cuba, Fidel Castro.

It is the duty of all the right thinking citizens of India to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people who are fighting relentlessly against the imperialist aggression and in solidarity with the five Cuban heroes in their fight against terror and defence of homeland. The seminar called upon the people to join hands with the youth and students world over fighting for the release of the arrested Cuban heroes. (INN)
