Left Parties Call For Observance Of 30th Anniversary Of LF Govt

Prakash Karat, CPI(M) general secretary, A B Bardhan, CPI general secretary, Debabrata Biswas, AIFB general secretary and K Pankajakshan, RSP general secretary have issued the following joint circular to state committees of the parties on May 31, 2007.

THE CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP have decided to observe the completion of 30 years of the Left Front government in West Bengal.

From 1977 when the first Left Front government was elected to office, for the past 30 years, the government has many achievements to its credit. The implementation of land reforms, operation barga, decentralisation of powers and the panchayati raj system, preservation of communal harmony and defence of secularism, ensuring the right to organise for all sections of the working people – these are some of the highlights of this remarkable tenure in office. It is this record of the Left Front government which saw massive popular support in the last assembly elections held in May 2006 when the Left Front was returned to the office with a three-fourth majority.

The anniversary of the Left Front government should also be utilised to project the role of the Left at the national level. The struggle of the Left for alternative policies and in defence of the interests of the people must be highlighted.

The Left parties will celebrate this anniversary by holding meetings in state capitals and other centres from June 20 to July 5, 2007. All units of the Left parties are requested to make this programme a big success.
