Solidarity Committee Formed For the Release of Cuban Five

 

The Youth-Students Cuba Solidarity Committee-India issued the following statement on March 21, 2007.

 

Joining the ongoing international solidarity campaign for the release of the Cuban five heroes (Five Cuban Youth) who are in American Jail under false charges, the Left and progressive youth and students’ organisations in India have formed a solidarity committee, Youth-Students Cuba solidarity committee- India. DYFI’s all India general secretary Tapas Sinha is its convenor.

 

The all India leaders of ten organisations (DYFI-SFI, AIYF-AISF, RYF-AIPSU, NYS-NSC) met in New Delhi and announced the solidarity campaign programmes in India. The representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in New Delhi Ms.Indira Lopez who is the first secretary political consulator and deputy head of mission and Dallas Diaz, second secretary were also present in this meeting. Some other Left and progressive organisations are also expected to join the solidarity committee. 

 

The solidarity campaign for the release of five Cuban youth, who have now served eight years of unjust imprisonment, represents a battle for truth and against terrorism. The aim of this solidarity campaign is to break the wall of silence and voice public opinion about the case imposed by Washington. 

 

The solidarity committee has decided to publish campaign material (posters, stickers, folders etc) and will begin with sending e-mails from different parts of the country on April 4, the foundation day of Cuban youth organisation to US administration demanding the release of Cuban five heroes. On April 16, 2007 a national seminar will be organised in New Delhi. The Ambassador of Cuba will be the chief guest and main speaker in this programme. 

 

Indian Youth Brigade 

 

The solidarity committee has also decided to send a youth brigade from India to Cuba to express solidarity in the month of July on the occasion of Moncada Day (July 26)- a day of historical importance in the Cuban revolutionary struggle.

 

The Youth-Students Cuba Solidarity Committee- India has also decided to convene its next meeting on April 16 in New Delhi to plan for the regional level campaign in India.
