Anti-Price Rise Protestors Die In Mishap
THREE CPI(M) supporters and Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) workers were killed in a road mishap while traveling from East Manikya Dewan ADC village to Karbook of Amarpur Sub-Division under South Tripura district to participate in the March 16 protest action against price-hike. 25 others received injuries in the mishap when the driver of the van lost control over the vehicle carrying the protesters and it rolled down with the passengers.
The nearby villagers at once rushed to the rescue of the passengers trapped inside the upturned vehicle and found comrades Kaladhan Chakma (35), Man Kumar Chakma (35) and Usharanjan Tripura (30), all GMP workers dead on the spot and 25 others injured. The injured were then rushed first to the Natunbazar hospital and from there to the Tripureswari District Hospital, Udaipur. Three grievously injured comrades were shifted to the G B Hospital, Agartala.
The CPI(M) state secretariat in a condolence statement deeply mourned the deaths and conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to the relatives of the victim comrades. The secretariat also hoped for early recovery of the injured now under treatment in hospitals.
Amarpur Party divisional secretary Manoranjan Acharjee and DC secretariat member Ranjit Debnath, MLA and other leaders of the Party visited the spot and met with the relatives of the victim comrades. State secretariat member Narayan Kar, Madhab Saha, Ratan Bhowmik and other leaders of Udaipur also met the injured in the Tripureswari district hospital and inquired about their treatment.
