SFI Condemns The Attack

THE Central Executive Committee of the Students’ Federation of India, in a press statement released on February 12, 2007, strongly condemned the attack on Rajesh Awasthi, SFI leader of Chattisgarh state committee by the BJP minister Rajesh Munath.

SFI along with other mass organisations and the democratic movement took part in the mobilisation to hand over a memorandum to the minister on the severe shortage of drinking water supply in Mowa, Raipur. The minister instead of listening to the woes of the people began to prow on them and personally beat them up along with other local leaders of the BJP and the police in which scores of people including women and children were injured. The minister has behaved true to its party’s culture, the statement said.

The police administration refused to file the FIR and only the popular pressure forced the police to file a FIR, though in a diluted form. To top it all the police filed wrong cases on the SFI leader at the behest of the minister and arrested him.

SFI demanded that FIR be lodged against the guilty BJP leaders, the minister be sacked and action be taken on the police officials responsible for the attack and naked partisanship.
