Future Course Of Action
The following future tasks have been announced from the 12th conference of CITU:
To carry forward the united countrywide struggle on 16-point demands (of December 14, 2006 strike action) to further heights in consultation with the constituents of Sponsoring Committee of Trade Unions
To initiate vigorous campaign and agitation on the demand of immediate enactment of comprehensive legislation on unorganised sector workers to culminate on a countrywide strike in the next phase of budget session as decided by the All India Coordination Committee of Unorganised Sector Workers (CITU). The CITU secretariat will finalise the date of the strike.
Holding of All India Convention of Contractor Workers to launch countrywide campaign and agitation demanding concrete legislative and administrative action against unlawful contractorisation of regular and permanent work and proper wages and social security benefits for contract workers pending regularisation of contract workers deployed in permanent perennial work.
All India Convention of Public Sector Workers during the budget session of parliament as per the decision of the Committee of Public Sector Trade Unions (CPSTU) to decide on future course of united action by the PSU workers, and PSU workers’ demonstration before parliament on the following day against the anti-worker guideline of DPE on wage-negotiation
All India Demands Day will be observed jointly with All India Kisan Sabha and All India Agricultural Workers’ Union in the first week of March 2007 through countrywide mobilisation in all districts and industrial centres on the demands/issues, viz., 1) Against price rise, 2) Strengthening Public Distribution System, 3) Universalisation of the Employment Guarantee Act to include urban unemployed also, 4) Comprehensive legislation on service conditions and social security for Unorganised Sector Workers and Agricultural Workers separately, 5) Universalisation of ICDS and Regularisation of Anganwadi workers and helpers, 6) On SEZ related issues.
