HARYANA
Victory For Karnal Liberty Workers
AFTER a long and arduous struggle for six months, workers of the Liberty Shoe Co at Karnal (Haryana) have forced the intransigent management to negotiate with their representatives. An agreement was then signed on December 22, with the mediation of labour commissioner of Haryana and the deputy commissioner of Karnal.
The management has agreed to take back all the 2000 workers except those dismissed and suspended, whose case has been referred to the labour tribunal by the Haryana government for adjudication within six months. It was also agreed that all previous agreements would be implemented.
The CITU’s state general secretary Satbir Singh has thanked all the organisations and individuals who stood by the workers and gave the much-needed support to the struggle.
While addressing the Liberty workers following the settlement, Satbir Singh expressed the hope that the spirit of the agreement would be upheld to restore normalcy and industrial peace. (INN)
