CPI(M) Condemns Death Sentence to Saddam Hussein

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on December 27, 2006.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its strong opposition to the confirmation of the death sentence on Saddam Hussein by an appellate tribunal. The CPI(M) reiterates that no fair trial is possible for Saddam Hussein and his colleagues under a regime of US occupation of Iraq. The execution of the death sentence will be a form of judicial assassination.

The United States and the British government should realise that they will be responsible for the serious consequences which will result from this extra-legal step. The United Nations, which was bypassed in the aggression and occupation of Iraq, must intervene immediately to stop the execution. The Indian government should take all political and diplomatic steps in this direction.

The Polit Bureau appeals to all sections of the people to raise their voice of protest against the death sentence.
