Bhagalpur Accident: Criminal Negligence Of Railways

 

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on December 3, 2006

 

AT least 35 people were killed and 25 injured when a 150-year old bridge collapsed and crushed a coach of the Howrah-Jamalpur Express near Bhagalpur on December 2, 2006. The accident occurred due to the criminal negligence on the part of the railway authorities. The tragedy could have been averted had the concerned authorities heeded the warning given by the workers at the site.

 

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses grief over this avoidable loss of life. It conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of the bereaved.

 

The Polit Bureau demands strict action against the officials, including the higher-ups who are responsible for this tragedy and adequate compensation to the families of the dead and injured. (INN)
