Left Leaders Meet Chinese President

 

 

THE leaders of the Left parties – Prakash Karat, Sitaram Yechury [CPI(M)], A B Bardhan and S Sudhakar Reddy [CPI], Debabrata Biswas and G Devarajan [Forward Bloc] met Chinese president Hu Jintao and senior members of his delegation on November 22. President Hu Jintao informed the leaders of the Left parties that his visit had a positive outcome with the signing of a joint statement and 13 agreements in various fields. He said, “India-China relations have transcended bilateral relations and assumed a global scope”. The president noted that the Left parties had contributed a great deal to improve relations with China. 

 

Prakash Karat, on behalf of the Left Parties, welcomed the outcome of the talks between the two sides and was confident that this will mark further improvement and strengthening of relations. The Left parties viewed growing relations between India and China as cooperative and complementary and not based on rivalry and competition. 

 

President Hu Jintao stated that the relations between the Communist Party of China and the Left parties should be strengthened further with more exchanges and learning from each other’s experiences. The Left parties, reacting positively to the idea and suggested that teams to study different sectors in China could be sent to learn from their experience. (INN)
