IMRANA CASE

AIDWA Welcomes The Verdict

AIDWA welcomes the verdict of the Muzaffarnagar district court in the Imrana case, convicting her father-in-law of rape and sentencing him to ten years in prison. The struggle launched by AIDWA and the support from other women’s rights groups has played a vital role in ensuring that the victim receives justice.

In this context, it is particularly noteworthy that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board has come out in favour of the judgement, and has taken a firm stand that the couple has every right to live together as husband and wife.

AIDWA demands that the UP government should provide shelter and protection to Imrana, her husband and children so that their right to live together independently is secured. To guarantee this, we call on all progressive forces in the community to come forward and extend their support to Imrana and her family.
