THE Punjab units of CPI(M), CPI and Lok Bhalai Party have decided to jointly fight the ensuing assembly elections in Punjab to consolidate and expand their respective bases and have their sizeable representation in the assembly.
This decision was taken on October 12 in the meeting of all the three parties held in Chandigarh. Professor Balwant Singh, CPI(M) state secretary, Charan Singh Virdi and Raghunath Singh state secretariat members from CPI(M) and Jagroop Singh CPI state secretary, Bhupindcr Sambhar and Harbhjan Singh from CPI and Sardar Balwant Singh Ramoowalia and Sardar Singh Mulanpuri president and acting president of Lok Bhalai Party participated in the meeting.
The three parties discussed the prevailing political situation in the state in the context of ensuing assembly elections. The parties finalised the broad contours of the joint election campaign consisting of the following three parts: (i) they will work for the defeat of the Akali-BJP alliance which is rabidly communal, corrupt and has got worst anti-people record; (ii) they will have no alliance or adjustment with the Congress and will expose its anti-people policies pursued under the dictates of IMF-WB-WTO during the last four and half years and which was marred by large scale corruption; (iii) they will build a platform projecting pro-people alternative policies and strive to win sizeable representation in the assembly to effectively legislate and implement the measures to defend interests of common and toiling masses for rapid industrialisation and economic development of the state and to save democratic secular fabric of Punjab.
The three parties further decided to organise joint activities and mass campaign oriented towards elections with immediate effect. The concrete plan will be chalked out in the next meeting of the three parties to be held shortly. (INN)
