CPI(M) Organises Blood Donation Camp At AKG Bhavan

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised a blood donation camp at the Party’s headquarters, A K Gopalan Bhavan in New Delhi on October 14, 2006 in the wake of reported shortfall of blood in various hospitals of the capital city due to high incidence of the Dengue fever. As is known, this deadly virus has already claimed 25 lives so far and more than 1000 persons have been admitted in various hospitals of the city.

The blood donation camp, organised with the help of Indian Red Cross and medical staff of Gobind Vallabh Panth Hospital, was inaugurated by Party Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury. Party central secretariat member V Srinivasarao, staff of AKG Bhavan, Party sympathisers, voluntary donors etc took part in the camp and donated their blood. A total of 72 persons donated their blood. Another 10 who came to donate were dissuaded from doing so due to medical reasons.

The CPI(M) initiative comes in the backdrop of near total apathy of Delhi government and the union government in mobilising blood from voluntary donors despite reported shortfalls of blood due to the spreading of deadly Dengue, creating panic among them. (INN)
