AIKS Demands Implementation Of NCF Recommendations

The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) issued the following statement on October 6, 2006

THE All India Kisan Sabha welcomes the major recommendations of National Commission on Farmers headed by Dr M S Swaminathan, which was submitted to the government of India on October 4, 2006.

The recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers include fixing of remunerative prices of such crops as wheat, rice, sugarcane, oilseeds, pulses etc; institutional credit for farmers should be fixed at 4 per cent interest; comprehensive law for agricultural workers to take care of house sites and minimum wage; enactment of land reform measures in the interest of the peasantry; opposition to policy of building country’s food security with imported foodgrains; strengthening of procurement system and Public Distribution System etc.

So far, the government of India has not taken any substantial measures to implement the recommendation of the National Commission on Farmers. They are also turning a deaf ear to the problems of the agrarian sector as a result of which the entire peasantry in our country has been facing unprecedented crisis and tens of thousands of our farmers are committing suicides because of indebtedness and the governments’ apathy.

The All India Kisan Sabha urges the government of India to take speedy steps to implement the recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers which would help to find solution to many problems of the peasantry and agriculture. (INN)
