Prevent
Surreptitious
Takeover
Of UNI
The
Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following
statement on September 28, 2006
THE
UNI board has inducted the Zee group chairman and his associates into the board.
The Zee group is thus poised to takeover the UNI.
This
has been done despite the widespread apprehensions that a news agency which was
set up as a Section 25 company should not come under the control of any single
business house. There are grounds to believe that this transaction is inimical
to the future of the UNI as a news agency and for its role as a premier news
agency.
The
government of India has the power to regulate the affairs of the company under
the law. The CPI(M) urges upon the government to intervene in the matter to
prevent the surreptitious change in the management in which most of the other
shareholders have not been taken into confidence.
