People Warned To Be Watchful
Haripada Das
IN view of the recent spur of violent attacks launched by the outlawed extremists and the news that the opposition parties in the state are intending to come to a secret pact with the extremists to carry on machinations against the people, Tripura state committee of the CPI(M) fervently calls upon the people to keep a high vigilance to foil all conspiracies and rise in unison. The Party instructed all its units to organise a rigorous political-ideological campaign in the coming days to expose and isolate these elements. The state committee thoroughly reviewed the situation in the state in its two day meeting on September 6 and 7. It had also asked all the party workers to instantly refute each and every slander and misinformation campaign of the opposition against the Left Front and the Left Front government.
Reviewing the programmes launched in the past two months, state committee observed that August campaign on the 14-point charter of demands and the statewide youth jhathas have received tremendous response from the people. State committee also emphasised on maintaining ethnic unity and amity in the state, particularly to maintain state’s age-old amity of the people of all ethnic and religious communities keeping in view the ensuing Durga Puja.
At a time when the newly elected village committees in the ADC areas started functioning to implement the developmental schemes of the state government as well as the ADC with a renewed vigour, the secessionist extremist outfits are trying to vitiate the atmosphere through killings, kidnapping, extortion and intimidation etc, creating a situation not conducive to carry on developmental work. The anti-Left Front opposition parties on the other hand, are patronising these anti-national extremist forces for their narrow political interests.
During last two and a half months, 7 persons including an SI, one constable, one teacher of Assam and two surrendered extremists were killed in an extremist attack. In the period since the last state committee meeting, 17 extremists and 29 of their collaborators with arms and ammunitions were arrested by the security forces. On the other hand, 12 hardcore extremists of both the outfits surrendered to the police.
The state committee decided to vigorously launch political-ideological offensive against the extremist forces and urged upon the government to undertake combat operations against the extremists in a more coordinated manner. State committee demanded the UPA government to continue to mount diplomatic pressure on the Bangladesh government for demolishing the extremist dens in their territory and hand over the extremists now under custody in Bangladesh to New Delhi. State committee also underlined early completion of the barbed wire fencing along the border to prevent cross border movement of the extremists. At the same time, it advocated for rehabilitation of the families whose land and houses fell outside the fence.
Referring to the dubious role of the utterly discredited Congress party inspite of its fast alienation from the people, the state committee observed that it did not abandon the negative political approach. Nor has it any say regarding the development of the state. Rather, in most of the cases the Congress party stands in the way of the implementation of the developmental projects. Election commission conducted an on the spot verification of the complaints made by the Congress alleging gross manipulation in preparation of the electoral rolls in the state and the allegation proved hollow. Starved of issues Congress has been resorting to wild lies against Left Front. The state committee called upon the party workers to nullify each and every slander of the congress and expose their anti-people role.
At the outset, state committee paid homage to the memory of leaders departed during this period. They include former Polit Bureau member of CPI(M) Comrade Koratala Satyanarayan, Comrade Subodh Roy, the youngest legend of the historic Chittagong revolt, GMP leader Comrade Abarna Jamatia, Belonia district committee secretariat member Comrade Manik Majumder, Kanchanpur district committee member Comrade Charanmani Reang, Comrade Sankar Chakraborty, eminent Shenai player Bismillah Khan, progressive poet of Bangladesh Samsur Rahaman and renowned film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee. State committee also condoled the death of those who were killed by the extremists during this period.
