PB Expresses Grief Over Death Of 54 Miners

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on September 8, 2006

THE Polit Bureau expresses deep grief at the death of 54 coal miners in an accident in Bhartdih Mine in Jharkhand.

The management of the Bharat Coking Coal Ltd. is responsible for a gross violation of safety rules which has resulted in the mishap. Though the mine was known to be gaseous, the local officials failed to take the precautionary steps provided in the mines safety regulations. The pressure of the gas became extremely high which led to the explosion and trapping of miners who died instantly.

The Polit Bureau demands action against the officials responsible for the mishap and strict observation of safety rules by Coal India, so that such dangerous accidents do not occur in future. (INN)
