CPI(M) veteran leader and Polit Bureau member Harkishan Singh Surjeet sent the following condolence message to the secretary of the West Bengal state committee of the CPI(M) condoling the demise of Comrade Subodh Roy.
I AM deeply shocked and grieved at the passing away of Comrade Subodh Roy, a veteran of the communist movement.
Whenever I used to visit Kolkata for any meeting, I used to stay at the state committee office. Comrade Subodh Roy used to invariably meet me and exchange views. We are of the same generation and both of us were drawn into the freedom at around the same age. Straightforwardness and simplicity were his outstanding qualities.
His death is a great loss for the Party. I join the rest of the Party in mourning his death. I convey my heartfelt condolences to his family and the West Bengal state committee of the Party.
CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury sent the following condolence message to the secretary of the West Bengal state committee of the CPI(M) condoling the demise of Comrade Subodh Roy
I was deeply saddened on hearing the news of the death of Comrade Subodh Roy.
Unassuming and simple, Subodhda’s requirements were very frugal. Despite his age and failing health, he used to resent any help that one would like to extend to him. He was fiercely independent, cooking his meals and even washing his clothes. These are certain qualities that communists of his generation imbued through the course of their struggles. The next time I come to the Muzaffar Ahmad Bhawan, sadly, Subodhda will not be there to greet me.
Joining the Party at a very young age, Subodhda was steadfast in his commitment and uncompromising when it came to ideology and principles. His departure at this juncture is a big loss for the Party in West Bengal.
I convey my heartfelt condolences to the West Bengal state committee of the Party. (INN)
