SRP’s Wife Passes Away

RETNAMMA, wife of CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, S Ramchandran Pillai, passed away on August 15, 2006 at 5:30 pm at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) . She was 58 years old. She had been seriously ill for the last few months and was undergoing treatment in AIIMS. 

S Ramchandran Pillai and two sons and daughter of the family were present when she breathed her last. On hearing news, CPI(M) leaders and cadres reached the hospital and consoled the family. 

Retnamma’s body was brought to CPI(M) Parliamentary Party office the next day afternoon in order to enable Party cadre, family friends and others to pay their homage. CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat placed a wreath at the body of Retnamma on behalf of the Party central committee. A number of Party and mass organisations leaders and cadres along with leaders of other political parties paid their last respects. Later, the cremation took place at Lodhi Road crematorium in the evening. (INN)
