CPI(M) Deplores UP Govt Action

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on August 17, 2006

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) deplores the decision of the Uttar Pradesh State Government to prohibit the holding of a rally at Dadri by V.P. Singh and the Jan Morcha. The rally was being organised to take up the issue of the acquisition of land from farmers cheaply and without adequate compensation.

The prohibition of the rally and the preventive arrests are undemocratic steps since there was no apprehension of any violence. The democratic right to hold rallies and protests peacefully must be ensured.
