CPI(M) Kerala Unit Collects Rs 72 Lakhs For Palestine Fund

PEOPLE of Kerala contributed more than Rs 72 lakhs to the Palestine fund collected by CPI(M) all over India to help the people of Palestine reeling under continuous barbaric attacks by Israel forces aided and abetted by US imperialism.

Thousands of squads of party members belonging to various party units ranging from branch to state committee approached people in markets, roads, institutions and their homes on July 30 and 31. People enthusiastically responded to the call in spite of the fact that this being the raining season is normally a lean period in Kerala. This tumultuous response was for two reasons. One, people of Kerala have generally wide sympathy towards the people of West Asia, and Palestine in particular who have been victims of in human imperialist attacks and machinations for the last 50 years and more. The left, especially CPI(M) has been campaigning against such imperialist interventions and in support of Palestine so much so that Yassar Arafat who symbolised Palestine and its people for decades was a familiar figure to the masses in Kerala.

Two, on the basis of the call given by the central leadership of CPI(M) a large number of meetings were organised throughout Kerala to express solidarity with the people of Palestine and to deplore US imperialist moves against them. Writers, artists and other well known people in addition to CPI(M) leaders addressed these well attended gatherings.
