All India Protest Day Against Petro Hike On June 13

The four Left parties – CPI(M), CPI, AIFB and RSP – in a statement issued on June 6, 2006 strongly protested against the decision of the UPA government to increase the prices of petrol by Rs 4 per litre and diesel by Rs 2 per litre. They called upon units of all the Left parties to immediately protest against this price hike through demonstrations, picketings and rallies. These protest actions will culminate in an All India Protest Day.

The Left parties have approached a number of political parties to observe an `All India Protest Day’ against the petrol and diesel price hike. “After consultation with various parties, it has been decided to observe an All India Protest Day on June 13, 2006. On that day, in different states, various protest actions will be undertaken jointly and independently by the political parties. Demonstration, picketing, court arrest including general strike will be the forms of protests which will be decided upon by the parties in the various states.”

The Samajwadi Party, the Telugu Desam Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal and the Assam Gana Parishad have decided to observe the All India Protest Day on June 13. Other parties are also being contacted, stated the Left parties.

“We appeal to all mass organisations and transport organisations to join the Protest Day call. We appeal to all sections of the people to participate fully in the protest actions”, they stated.
