Comrade K K Pawar

 

 

COMRADE K K Pawar, member of the CPI(M) Maharastra state committee, secretary of the Party Nashik district committee, vice president of the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha and president of the Nashik Zilla Parishad, passed away on May 10, 2006, after a three month long battle against an attack of brain haemorrhage which struck him on February 21, 2006. He was 56 years old. 
  
Born in a poor Adivasi peasant family in Surgaua tehsil, K K Pawar with great determination complete his graduation at Aurangabad. He came in contact with senior CPI(M) leader Narendra Malusare and joined the Party in 1977. K K Pawar was in the forefront of all the militant agitations for land, forest plots, wages and tribal development that were led by the CPI(M) and the AIKS in Nashik district. He was jailed several times and faced several police cases. 
  
K K Pawar was elected secretary of the CPI(M) Surgaua tehsil committee for a number of years and was a member of the Party Nashik district committee since 1985. He was elected to the Party state committee in 2001 and was secretary of the Party Nashik district committee since 2005. He was vice president of the Maharashtra Rajya Kisan Sabha and the Nashik district Kisan Sabha for several years. In all these capacities, he played a major role in building the Party and Kisan Sabha in several tehsils of Nashik district. He made a major contribution for the success of the AIKS 31st national conference at Nashik that was held in January 2006. 
  
In 1992, K K Pawar was elected chairman of the Surgaua tehsil panchayat samiti, a responsibility that he fulfilled with distinction for five years. He was elected to the Nashik zilla parishad twice in 1997 and 2002 and was elected president of the Nashik zilla parishad in 2005. He had the honour of being the first ZP president of the CPI(M) in Maharashtra. In all these elected positions, K K Pawar always maintained his integrity and humility. It was as a result of the sustained work among the people put in by comrades like Narendra Malusare, J P Gavit and K K Pawar that the Party has been continuously winning the MLA seat in Surgaua for over 25 years since 1978, with one exception in 1995.
  
Large all party condolence meetings were held at Nashik and Dhurapada in Surgaua tehsil to pay homage to Comrade K K Pawar. These were addressed among others by CPI(M) and AIKS state secretary Dr Ashok Dhawale, CPI(M) state secretariat member, AIKS state president and MLA J P Gavit, CPI(M) state secretariat member and CITU state secretary Dr D L Karad, other district Party leaders and by leaders of all other political parties, leading journalists and other eminent people from all walks of life.
