SFI To Hold Convention On Social Justice

THE Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has announced that it is going to organise an All India Convention on Social Justice on June 29, 2006 in Delhi. The convention would be followed by a march to the HRD ministry. Student representatives from all over the country will participate in the Convention and the march.

Announcing this at a press conference on May 29, 2006 SFI general secretary K K Ragesh said that as part of the preparations for the convention, the SFI would organise an extensive campaign throughout the country with ‘social justice’ as the central slogan. Reiterating their position in support of reservations for OBCs in all the central educational institutes, they have demanded the extension of the same to all the private education institutes too. They urged the union government and all the state government to immediately enact an enabling legislation to this effect. They also demanded the government to increase the avenues for higher education and ensure that nobody is deprived of access to higher education.

SFI president R Arun Kumar and joint secretary Ritabrata Banerjee were also present in the press meet. (INN)
