PB Statements On Vadodara Violence
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on May 3, 2006
THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) reiterates its concern at the unfolding events in Vadodara. Despite the clear warning given by the events of the demolition of the dargah, the administration has not taken any initiative. In fact they have allowed the mobs to attack and brutally kill a person in his car and colonies are being threatened. These are the same areas where in 2002 the riots had taken place. The administration is refusing to take action against the communal forces.
The central government must immediately take steps to ensure that the administration protects the minorities and the security forces are deployed for this purpose.
Earlier on May 2, 2006, the PB issued the following statement:
THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the police firing and violence in Vadodara which has led to the death of four persons.
Given the sensitive nature of the issue of the removal of the dargah in the name of clearing the road, the administration has totally mishandled the whole issue. This has caused apprehensions amongst the minority community and unnecessary tension in the area.
The Narendra Modi government, known for its insensitivity in handling such issues, must desist from taking any step that will further aggravate the situation.
A high level enquiry must be held to ascertain who is responsible for allowing the situation to develop in this manner.
