MAY DAY CELEBRATED AT AKG BHAVAN

AMIDST resounding slogans of ‘May Day Zindabad’, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and CITU general secretary Chittabrata Majumdar hoisted the Red Flag setting off May Day celebrations at the Party headquarters, A K Gopalan Bhavan, in New Delhi today.

Leaders and cadre working in the central offices of various mass organisations joined those working in AKG Bhavan to celebrate the May Day. The building was adorned with Red festoons and flags. It was a festive atmosphere with many comrades turning out with their entire families. A group of children sang “We Shall Overcome” immediately after the hoisting of the flag.

In his brief address Chittabrata Majumdar underscored the importance of May Day in the fight to end capitalism and establish socialism in the world. He called upon the working class to intensify the struggle against capitalism. CPI(M) central secretariat member V Sreenivasa Rao welcomed the gathering and conducted the proceedings.

Later, ‘Act One’ group artistes staged a play depicting the collaboration of the Indian big bourgeoisie with US imperialism in the assault on the working class of our country. It was watched with interest not only by Party workers but also many other passers-by and rickshaw pullers in the vicinity. The May Day celebrations ended with this performance.
