On Meerut Fire Tragedy

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statements on April 11, 2006.

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep shock at the fire which engulfed a trade fair in Meerut which has resulted in the death of 50 people and injures to many others.

The administration should ensure proper medical treatment for all those who have suffered burn and other injuries.

The fair was organised disregarding elementary fire safety and security regulations. The halls had single entry and exit gates which contributed to the high casualty rate. Firm action should be taken against the organizers and the officials who have neglected their responsibilities.

The Polit Bureau conveys its deep sympathy to all the families who have lost their family members and those who have suffered injuries.
