Terrorist Outrage In Varanasi

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on March 8, 2006.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its deep shock and strong condemnation at the bomb blats in Varanasi which have killed 20 people and injured many more. The fact that the bomb blasts took place at a temple and the railway station in the city shows the diabolical motive behind this terrorist attack which is to create communal tensions and a backlash. Recognising the nature of this provocation, all sections of the people must rebuff this heinous attempt.

While it is a time for all people to be united and determined to counter such terrorist violence, it is unfortunate that the BJP is resorting to low politics by attributing the terrorist outrage to so-called minority appeasement by the government and the secular parties. This is an exhibition of the type of communal politics which vitiates the atmosphere in the country.

The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) calls upon the Uttar Pradesh state government and the Centre to take all necessary measures to track down the culprits behind this crime and to identify and proceed against the groups and networks who are responsible for such terrorist acts.

The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to all the bereaved families and its sympathies to those injured.
