 On Quattrocchi Case

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on January 12, 2006.

It is reported that the Additional Solicitor General has conveyed to the British Crown prosecution authorities that there is no evidence to link the two bank deposits of Ottavio Quattrocchi in London with the Bofors case. These two bank deposits had been frozen at the request of the CBI earlier.

The Delhi High Court had quashed the case against the Hindujas and some others. Quattrocchi is still chargesheeted in the Bofors case and he has not cooperated and appeared in court so far for the framing of the charges. Further, the CBI has stated that the efforts to bring Quattrocchi to court would continue and the Interpol red alert notice has not been revoked.

In such a situation, it is questionable why such legal opinion about the bank accounts has been conveyed to the British authorities. The Government has to explain why and how this has happened.
