Stick To The Inquiry On Volcker Report: CPI(M)
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on December 3
THE CPI(M) had already stated that the charges contained in the Volcker committee report should be investigated to ascertain the truth. For this, the Justice Pathak Inquiry Committee has been constituted. The CPI(M) reiterates that the Volcker committee report should not be treated as final and conclusive given the circumstances in which Iraq was under sanctions and the records obtained under US occupation have not been verified.
The inquiry is necessary to establish if there was any wrong doing and by whom. Action should be taken on that basis. All the relevant information and material should be investigated including the purported remarks by Aniel Matherani.
It is surprising that the BJP is not demanding an inquiry into the biggest non-contractual beneficiary in the oil contract as listed in the Volcker report. Is it because the BJP-led government had something to do with this arrangement?
The government of India should ensure that all relevant material and information is made available to the commission and the investigation is expanded to cover all the beneficiaries in the oil contracts, overt or covert.
