On
Nepal King’s Roadmap
The
Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following
statement on November 14.
IT
has been reported that in the meeting at Dhaka between the King of Nepal and
prime minister Manmohan Singh, India has been assured that a “carefully worked
out roadmap would be prepared to usher in the democratic process in Nepal”.
Such
an assurance is meaningless given the actual state of affairs within Nepal where
the King continues to suppress all political and democratic activities. All the
political parties in Nepal have rejected the roadmap set out by the king which
envisaged parliament elections in 2007.
Under
these circumstances, the Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) reiterates that India should
not in any way provide any legitimacy to the Nepal King in the suppression of
democracy in the country. India must not resume arms supplies to Nepal until the
complete restoration of democracy. (INN)
