Shri K R Narayanan
The Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on November 9, 2005.
THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) deeply mourns the passing away of Shri K R Narayanan, former President of India. Shri Narayanan had a long record of distinguished service to the country.
Born in a humble dalit family, by sheer merit and dint of hard work, Narayanan overcame caste prejudices and acquired the best education possible.
After a successful diplomatic career, K R Narayanan joined politics and served in parliament and the Union cabinet.
As President, Narayanan’s outlook was marked by a deep commitment to secular values and social justice. He was deeply disturbed by the Gujarat communal violence of 2002 and what it portended for the secular republic.
The country will gratefully remember K R Narayanan’s contribution to public life. The Polit Bureau conveys its deep sympathy and condolences to Mrs Usha Narayanan and his two daughters.
