A THREE-MEMBER delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), led by regional committee secretary Sham Parshad Kesar, recently visited Poonch and Rajouri to share the grief and sorrow that has struck numerous families in the wake of the recent earthquake.
The CPI(M) team visited camps in Krishna Chander Park, Subhash Chander Park and also the affected ward numbers 16, 15 and 10 in Poonch town, apart from the villages surrounding Poonch. The delegation observed that while most of the katcha and old houses were fully damaged, new pucca houses have also suffered partial damages. Thus the affected people need adequate compensation for rebuilding or repairing their houses. The delegation also visited the Government Hospital, Poonch, to meet the injured persons.
The delegation members --- Kesar, Parkash and Kishor --- also met the deputy commissioner of Poonch and other officers to discuss the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work and to offer the CPI(M)’s cooperation in it. They felt there is an immediate need of tents, blankets and warm clothes for the affected families as the winter season has started. The state and central governments as well as concerned citizens must intensify their efforts in this regard.
