CPI(M) Team Visits Blast Sites

ON October 29, a delegation of the CPI(M) visited the places ravaged by the dastardly bomb blasts in Paharganj and Sarojininagar markets on the day, soon after the blasts took place. The delegation spoke to eyewitnesses in both the places and also visited the Ram Manohar Lohia and Safdrjung Hospitals where most of the victims are being treated. The delegation had detailed discussions with the chief medical officer at RML Hospital and the medical superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital regarding the treatment of the victims.

The delegation comprised CPI(M) Rajya Sabha leader Nilotpal Basu, its Delhi state committee secretary PMS Grewal and some other members of the Delhi state committee.

In a statement issued on October 30 morning, the delegation severely condemned these reprehensible acts of violence against innocent people. It noted that the victims largely consisted of women and children, who were shopping on the eve of Diwali and Eid.

The delegation appreciated the role of hospital authorities and doctors at RML and Safdarjung, who were doing everything possible to save the lives of the injured. Among the patients being treated in these two hospitals, the condition of 20 still remained critical. The team could find official confirmation of 54 dead from the two hospitals. It expressed the hope that the lives of these critical patients could be saved through the efforts of the doctors and hospital staff.

The delegation said, “At this moment of crisis it is necessary to keep calm and provide the best possible help to the families of the dead and the injured victims. The government should take urgent steps to reassure the people that their safety and security would be ensured. The government should spare no efforts to book the culprits of this heinous crime.” The CPI(M) team made an appeal to all concerned to refrain from unnecessary politicisation of and speculation on this unfortunate tragedy.
