Goa: CPI(M) Criticises IT Policy

THE Goa state committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has criticised the decision of the Goa government to withdraw maternity benefits to the women employed in the IT sector. The move is not only anti-labour, it is blatantly anti-women. It punishes women for performing their biologically ordained role and intensifies the exploitation of women. The CPI(M) has warned that the state government’s move will lead to increasing backwardness among women who are still just coming out of the four walls of the household to join the march for national progress.

The CPI(M) has expressed surprise that the Congress party, which boasts of a lady as its national president, should even think of such a retrograde measure. The total silence of the Congress legislators on this highly retrogressive move of their ministry speaks volumes for the male chauvinism that has gripped them.
