CPI(M) Condemns The Attack

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on October 18. 

THE attack on Mohd Yusuf Tarigami, MLA and secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir state committee of the CPI(M), and minister for education Ghulam Nabi Lone which has led to the death of the minister is a shocking incident. At a time when the people of Jammu & Kashmir are suffering from the tragedy of the  earthquake and the CPI(M) and other political parties are pre-occupied with relief activities, this attack is despicable and shows the lack of elementary human values in the perpetrators. The Polit Bureau strongly condemns the assassination of Ghulam Nabi Lone. 

The fidayeen attack in Tulsibagh colony in Srinagar, which is a high security area, narrowly missed assassinating Tarigami while his security guard was killed. It is disturbing that such an attack took place in a high security area and this needs to be probed. A day before this attack, another CPI(M) leader Ghulam Nabi Ganaie was killed in Anantnag district.  This highlights the necessity to provide adequate security and protection for the CPI(M) leaders who are being targeted by the extremists.   The state government should take immediate steps for this.  (INN)
