March To Parliament On December 8

THE CITU secretariat has decided to organise a ‘March to Parliament’ on December 8, 2005 to press the 15-point charter of demands of the unorganised sector workers adopted at the Second Convention of Unorganised Workers held recently in Ferozabad.

This is an independent action programme of the CITU, which has asked all the its state committees to take immediate steps to mobilise the unorganised sector workers in large numbers and make the ‘March to Parliament’ a telling success. The state committees from the four southern states will, however, have a token participation, while planning for larger mobilisations on the same day at state/district levels.

The Indian Labour Conference (ILC) is being held on December 9-10, 2005, in which ‘Social Security for Unorganised Sector Workers’ is an item on the agenda. It includes agricultural workers, covering their service conditions, social security and other benefits. The CITU ‘March to Parliament’ will precede the ILC session.
