BUCTU Sweeps Senate Elections
ANOTHER significant victory of the teachers’ movement was registered on September 30, when the Bombay University and College Teachers Union (BUCTU) swept the Mumbai University senate elections by winning all 24 teachers seats, the counting for which was completed at 5 am on October 1.
The
BUCTU candidates routed all the 17 candidates of the opportunist combination
called as YUTI, and MUTO, of the ABVP and Shiv Sena. Their star candidate, Prof
Ratnakar Shetty, secretary of the Bombay Cricket Association, was among the
first to be eliminated in the counting, followed by all the others of YUTI.
Among the 24 BUCTU candidates are Prof B R Salve, vice president BUCTU, and Dr Tapati Mukhopadyay, general secretary.
