THE BJP and its earlier incarnation the Jan Sangh were surely far removed from Leftist ideology, but that didn’t deter the KGB from cultivating some of its top leaders. In the 1970s, one operative of the Soviet intelligence outfit masquerading as a journalist in Delhi regularly met one of them at the latter’s house, always in the small house of the morning to avoid Intelligence Bureau (IB) surveillance.

Another senior leader of he party had regular one-to-one meeting with yet another KGB officer at Wenger’s (a popular confectionery shop in Delhi’s Connaught Circus). The BJP reaction to Andrew’s revelations illustrates the pot calling the kettle black. These two leaders are alive and hold important positions in the party.
