Prajasakti Adds Eighth Edition At Karimnagar
M Venugopala Rao
IN
the year of its silver jubilee celebrations, as a part and parcel of its
progressive expansion, Prajasakti Telugu daily added its eighth edition at Karimnagar. The
edition office was inaugurated by the minister for sports, cultural affairs and
cinematography, M Satyanarayana Rao, on August 27. Speaking at the meeting
organised in this connection, which was presided over by editor of Prajasakti
S Vinaya Kumar, the minister reminded that Prajasakti
had played its due role during the freedom movement. Pointing out that there was
a lot of difference between the newspapers of those days and of the present-day,
the veteran leader regretted that some of the newspapers were distorting news
for sensationalism. Contrary to
that trend, Prajasakti has been acting
as the voice of the down-trodden, responding to the problems of the common
people and the policies of the government and enlightening the people, said
Satyanarayana Rao. He said Prajasakti
should be expanded further. He recollected that when he was in the prime of his
youth, he worked with Communist leaders and that the spirit with which leaders
like Comrades P Sundarayya, Ravi Narayana Reddy and Baddam Yellareddy worked
could not be forgotten. He
suggested to the police and the naxalites that peace could not be achieved
through the gun and appealed to the naxalites to give up guns and join the
mainstream. After the Left Front
government in West Bengal implemented land reforms, the naxalite movement there
came to an end, pointed out Satyanarayana Rao. Because the Left parties were
strong in Kerala and Tripura, naxalite movement could not take root in those
states, he said.
Freedom fighter Dr Boinapally Venkata Rama Rao recollected that since the days of the formation of Andhra Maha Sabha, Prajasakti had been going ahead, enlightening the people. Chada Venkata Reddy, leader of the CPI legislature party, said that it was not an ordinary thing that Prajasakti had expanded to its present level, acting with a distinct style of its own. MLA E Rajendar said Prajasakti has been forging ahead with ideological commitment and bringing facts to the notice of the people. The district collector, C Parthasarathy, termed Prajasakti as a newspaper voicing the heart beats of the suppressed people. Sarampally Mallareddy, secretary of Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham, said that apart from bringing out the problems of the poor, Prajasakti has been relentlessly responding on the social, economic and political issues. General manager of Prajasakti V Krishnaiah said the daily has been raising its voice against casteism, regionalism, separatism and religious fundamentalism and promised to improve the paper further in the coming days. S Vinaya Kumar said in its march Prajasakti was gaining the affection and support of the people and expanding itself. Mementos were presented to veteran journalists V R Bommareddy and V Hanumantha Rao.
