  The Communist Party Of Canada

Dear Comrades: On behalf of The Central Committee and Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Canada we greet you and salute you on the occasion of the 19th Congress of your Party, the Communist Party of India (Marxist). We wish you well in your deliberations and have faith that you will emerge from your congress fully armed to carry your struggle to the working people of India.

We, as all communists, are very concerned with the deteriorating international situation and the increasing danger of the escalation of Imperialist violence led by the major Imperialist power the United States of America. This situation has been intensified by the recent re-election of George Bush and the appointment of Condoleeza Rice as US Secretary of State. This alarming trend is continuing with George Bush proposing ultra-rightwing conservative Paul Wolfowitz for president of the World Bank.

The Communist Party of Canada believes that the danger of war is increasing which adds a heightened importance of the forces for peace in the world of which the Communist Parties are a part of. In such an atmosphere in which the powers of Imperialism are acting in a global manner with little regard to state boundaries and national sovereignty it is even more imperative that we seek ways to continue to improve the unity and cooperation of Communist Parties internationally. The International meeting of Communist and Workers held last year in Athens hosted by the Communist Party of Greece made a major step in that direction. One that we welcome.

We have been working very hard in Canada as an important part of the forces rebuilding a mass anti-imperialist peace movement. So far there have been some significant victories. Just last month the minority liberal government was forced by public pressure to withdraw from the Ballistic Missile Defense plan of the Bush government. This was widely celebrated recently by Canadians as a part of the Global Day of Action where tens of thousands of Canadians participated in over 45 communities in our Country.

We have long valued the strong internationalist relationship that we have with all of our Comrades in India. We feel a special relationship to our Indian Comrades because many of the immigrants to Canada from your country have been communists who work with us in our struggles and who have become members of our party. In this regard, Comrade Darshan Canadian came to our Party in 1937 and played a very significant role in organizing Asian workers into the Canadian trade union movement. He helped our party very much and when he returned to India in 1947 to help build an independent India he was very much missed. However we will forever honour his memory and always be proud of our connection through him to India. This is a strong international bond which we treasure.

We also want to note and congratulate both the CPI(M) and the CPI on the recent electoral successes in your Lok Sabha. The day will be soon that you will embark on the great historical task of building a free, independent and socialist India.

Long Live the Communist Party of India - Marxist
