Condolence Resolution Adopted By The 18th Congress
E K Nayanar
THE 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of E K Nayanar one of the pioneers of the communist movement in Kerala, a prominent leader of the Party and a beloved leader of the people in Kerala.
Nayanar belonged to that generation of communist leaders who got drawn into the freedom struggle at a young age. He joined the Communist Party in 1939. He was one of the 32 National Council members who left the CPI to form the CPI(M). He was a member of the central committee of the CPI(M) from the 7th Congress in 1964. He was elected to the Polit Bureau at the 14th Congress in 1992 and remained its member till his death.
He served as the secretary of the Kerala state committee of the CPI(M) from 1972 to 1980 and again from 1992 to 1996. He served as the chief minister of Kerala three times. He was the longest serving chief minister in Kerala for a total of 11 years.
As a communist leader, Nayanar was above all a man of the people. His forte was to be with the people and to communicate with them. He was one of the leaders in Kerala most liked by the ordinary people.
L B Gangadhara Rao
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of Lavu Bala Gangadhara Rao, a veteran leader of the Party, former member of the Polit Bureau and the central committee.
LBG was one of the builders of the communist movement in Andhra Pradesh joining the Party way back in 1938. He was a leading figure of the heroic Telengana armed struggle.
He played a key role in the struggle against right deviation and Left adventurism in the communist movement in Andhra Pradesh.
M V Narasimha Reddy
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of veteran communist and member of its central committee, Mallu Venkata Narasimha Reddy.
Narasimha Reddy was one of the prominent fighters in the Telengana armed struggle. He steadfastly upheld the revolutionary tenets of Marxism-Leninism and played an important role when both the revisionist and the Left adventurist divisions had deeply divided the communist movement in Andhra Pradesh.
Nripen Chakraborty
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays respectful homage to the memory of Nripen Chakraborty, a veteran of the communist movement in India. He was a former member of the Polit Bureau.
Nripen Chakraborty was one of the founders of the communist movement in Tripura. He played a pioneering role in the fight against the feudal aristocracy and for national independence. He was chief minister of Tripura for two terms. His sacrifices for the cause of the people and the Party made him immensely popular in the state and outside.
S Suryanarayana Rao
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays tribute to the memory of S Suryanarayana Rao, member of the central committee of the Party and secretary of the Karnataka state committee of the CPI(M).
Suryanarayana Rao emerged as an important leader of the working class movement in Karnataka. He led a number of important strike struggles of major industrial units in and around Bangalore in the last three decades.
Suryanarayana Rao became a member of the Communist Party in 1947. He joined the CPI(M) when it was formed in 1964 and held various positions in the Party in Karnataka.
Ram Sumer Yadav
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) salutes the memory of Ram Sumer Yadav, member of the central committee and a veteran of the communist movement.
Ram Sumer belonged to that generation of leaders who gave up their studies to jump into the anti-imperialist movement. He joined the Communist Party in 1947 and began to organise the peasantry. He was elected as the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh state committee in 1988 and to the central committee at the 13th Congress in 1989.
Kanak Mukherjee
The 18th congress pays respectful tributes to the memory of Kanak Mukherjee, former member of its central committee and member of the West Bengal State Committee of the Party and a leading figure of the women’s movement.
Kanak Mukherjee, from her young days, showed tremendous dedication to the Communist Party and faced repression and jail unflinchingly.
Nandeshwar Talukdar
The 18th congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays respectful homage to the memory of Nandeshwar Talukdar, former member of the central committee and former secretary of the Assam state committee of the Party.

Yasser Arafat
The 18th congress of the central committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Yasser Arafat, President of the State of Palestine and chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation.
In his six decade long struggle for emancipation of his people and for securing them a homeland, Arafat symbolised the hopes and aspirations not only of the Palestinian people but the entire anti-imperialist movement. Arafat was able to unite the different streams and factions of the Palestinian movement and build a strong unified centre of resistance to the Israeli Zionist occupation and its imperialist backers. Arafat was a great friend of India and a source of inspiration for the worldwide struggle against imperialism.
