IWA (GB) Welcomes Musharraf’s Gesture

THE Indian Workers Association (GB), welcomed the gesture of friendship and humanity made by Pakistan President, Pervez Musharaf in releasing 200 Indian prisoners at the request of CPI(M) and CPI general secretaries.

IWA (GB) national general secretary, Harsev Bains, in a statement issued on March 2, said “the decision to immediately release 200 of the 1400 or so detainees held in Pakistan jails is of historic significance, as the announcement has been made following discussions between President Musharaf and the Indian delegation led by Hakishan Singh Surjeet and A B Bardhan. The news will come as a great relief and joy to the families of these economic migrants from the bordering areas of Punjab and Kashmir. For them March 1, 2005 will be a day of great celebration.”
