THE
Tamil Nadu state committee of the Communist party of India (Marxist) has fielded
its entire force for the relief work. All the mass organisations are also fully
engaged in providing relief to the tsunami victims.
Relief
funds and materials are pouring in from other state units of the Party. The West
Bengal state committee has donated Rs 5 lakh for relief and sent a team of
doctors to Nagapattinam. The Kerala state committee has also sent many relief
teams and huge quantity of relief material to Kanyakumari district.
The
Tamil Nadu state committee has given a call for a Relief Fund and has put the
entire machinery into collecting funds and relief material.
KARAT’S VISIT

Meanwhile,
CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat along with senior leaders of the Party
visited the tsunami-affected areas in Nagapattinam district Immediately after
the tragedy took place. He visited Nagore and Vellankanni, the places which took
massive hits and saw the mass destruction caused by nature's fury. He also took
stock of the relief work begun by the Party in these areas. Karat was
accompanied by Party state secretary N Varadharajan, state secretariat members G
Veeraiyan, G Ramakrishnan, K Balakrishnan and Party MLAs
Another
team headed by CPI(M) central committee member, T K Rengarajan visited
Kanyakumari district and accelerated the Party relief work there. In Kanyakumari
district, the Party relief work is being coordinated by Party Lok Sabha member A
V Bellarmine and MLAs D Mani and J Hemachandran. A team of CPI(M) MPs from
Kerala, headed by Varkala Radhakrishnan also visited Kanyakumari.
Earlier
a team of Bengal MPs visited the Kalpakkam atomic station near Chennai.
AIKS
general secretary K Varadharajan, AIDWA general secretary Sudha Sundararaman,
DYFI central leaders K N Balagopal, Tapas Sinha, and SFI president K K Ragesh
also visited the affected areas and took part in the relief work.
The
Party has demanded the state and central governments to urgently convene an all
party meeting to coordinate the huge efforts required for relief and to start
the rehabilitation measures for the affected people immediately.
