On
Telangana Issue And The UPA
THE
Communist Party of India (Marxist) is against the division of linguistic states
which were formed after a popular democratic movement in the 1950s.
The formation of these states like Andhra Pradesh fulfilled the
commitment made during the independence struggle.
The
CPI(M) and the Left parties, while endorsing the Common Minimum Programme, had
recorded their objection to bringing in the issue of a new state of Telangana.
The CPI(M) continues to maintain that such an issue will prove divisive
and weaken the federal structure of the country.
This
was the official reaction from the Party on November 27 while responding to
press queries on the formation of a UPA sub-committee on this issue. (INN)
