CPI(M)-PDF Delegation Places Views Before PM
A delegation of CPI(M) and People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) comprising of M Y Tarigami, state secretary of CPI(M), Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, Usman Majeed, M Khalil Naik met the prime minster Dr Manmohan Singh at the Raj Bhawan, Srinagar on November 17 and congratulated him for his bold decision of reducing troop strength in the state.
The delegation among other things suggested that identifying some peace zones within the state and subsequently demilitarising them would be a step forward in the right direction that would eventually create an atmosphere conducive for further forward movement. It was suggested that a meaningful dialogue with the representatives of political parties in the state assembly over the resolution on autonomy to the state adopted by state legislative assembly in the year 2000 should be facilitated to rectify the wrong done by the previous BJP-led NDA government which summarily rejected the resolution.
It was also suggested that the government should review the cases of all the detenues not involved in heinous crimes and facilitate their immediate release. They urged upon the prime minister that the youth of Kashmir who have gone to the other side of the LOC and want to live a peaceful life now, their return should be facilitated thereby allowing them to live peacefully.
As a part of reestablishment of relations and contacts, people from both sides of the LOC should be allowed to have exchange of trade. As a good indicator of bonhomie the transport links between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad should be reestablished.
Employment for the prime victims of the turmoil in the state i.e the youth should be generated and a special package for recruitment drive should be announced. The delegation also demanded time bound reservation in central departments for J&K youth.
The delegation also suggested that revival and restructuring of the shattered economy of the state should be taken in hand and areas and avenues should be identified to institutionalize the employment and revenue generation in the state. (INN)
