People's Democracy(Weekly Organ of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) |
Vol.
XXVIII
No. 43 October 24, 2004 |
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on October 15.
THE
action of the Maharashtra governor, Mohammad Fazal, of writing to the political
parties asking them to submit information on pre-poll alliances and other
details two days before the counting of the assembly elections is unprecedented.
It does not come under the purview of the governor’s functions.
First of all, the governor has no business to seek such information
before the declaration of the results. Secondly,
the governor’s role, whatever it be, will be determined after the counting and
the nature of the results.
The
President of India should take up the matter with the governor for exceeding his
jurisdiction.
