On Tehelka Tapes Enquiry
The
Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following
statement on October 5, 2004:
THE
Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) welcomes the decision of the UPA government to
entrust the CBI with the investigation into the Tehelka tape exposures and to
discontinue the enquiry by the judicial commission.
The
Tehelka tapes exposed corruption at
high levels in the system. Instead of taking action against those about whom prima
facie evidence existed, the BJP-led government embarked on a cover-up of the
startling exposures. Worse, Tehelka
was the subject of an official vendetta campaign.
The judicial commission was asked to go into the motives for the Tehelka
exposure rather than uncovering the nexus of bribery and corruption.
The
country expects a quick investigation and action taken against those guilty of
corrupt practices. (INN)
