CPI(M)
Observes Anti-Imperialist And Anti-War Day
THE
CPI(M) units across the country observed September 1 as "Anti-Imperialist
and Anti-War Day" by holding demonstrations, rallies and public meetings.
In New Delhi, the Party state unit organised a dharna at Jantar Mantar. People
from all walks of life, particularly workers under the banner of CITU turned out
in large numbers chanting 'NO to Bush-Blair Proxy Rule in Iraq'. They were
holding placards denouncing the American- Israeli axis and American machinations
elsewhere.
The
meeting was addressed among others by Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat, central
committee member Joginder Sharma and leaders from the CITU Delhi and Ghaziabad.
Prakash
Karat, while addressing the dharna, said that this day was being observed all
over the country by the Party and mass organisations like CITU, DYFI, JMS, SFI
etc. The people all over the world are opposing the US imperialist war and
occupation of Iraq. He pointed out that there was secularism during the regime
of Saddam Hussein. But the US administration has imposed a puppet and religious
and fundamentalist government, which is finishing secularism. He appealed
to the people of our country not to visit Iraq for any employment and
help American forces and administration. He
called upon the people to fight unitedly against the terror perpetrated by the
USA and UK. He also criticised the previous NDA government for not protesting
against the naked body search of the then India’s defence minister twice when
he visited USA, prompting the crowds to chant “Shame, Shame.”
Jogender Sharma gave the details of how American imperialism was imposing its conditionalties on developing and other countries through its agencies like the World Bank and the IMF. The US imperialism was also trying to impose its conditionalties on North Korea which was strongly fighting imperialist forces. He also appealed to the people to fight against imperialist forces.
CITU leader Suraj Bhan Bhardwaj presided over the dharna. Others who addressed the dharna included Baldev Singh, Mohan Lal, Nathu Prasad leaders of district committees of Delhi and different mass organisations. (INN)
